Summary

🌴 Visiting the British Virgin Islands from Antigua and Barbuda? Don’t forget your ED card. This required pre-arrival form is quick to complete but essential for every traveler, whether on a weekend sailing trip or a quick hop across the sea.

In this guide, we explain the ED card, when to apply, and how iVisa helps you get it right the first time.

🧾 Bonus tip: Print your QR code before leaving. Ferry ports don’t always have Wi-Fi.

Headed to the British Virgin Islands from Antigua and Barbuda? Whether you’re planning a quick hop over to Tortola or exploring the coastline by catamaran, there’s one thing to do before departure: fill out the British Virgin Islands ED card.

Even if you’re just visiting for a short trip, this form is required for all travelers—including citizens of Antigua and Barbuda.

What is the British Virgin Islands ED card? 🛬

The BVI ED card is a free pre-arrival travel form. It’s not a visa, but it is mandatory if you’re entering the British Virgin Islands by air, land, or sea.

  • Free to complete
  • Valid for one entry
  • Required for all nationalities
  • Must be submitted at least 72 hours before arrival

Once approved, you’ll get a PDF with a QR code by email to show at immigration.

Do Antigua and Barbuda citizens need it?

Yes. Even though many Caribbean countries enjoy relaxed travel rules between islands, the BVI has its own border procedures. The ED card is one of them.

We’ve seen travelers caught off guard because they thought the BVI was just like any other nearby island. But remember, it’s a British Overseas Territory with its own requirements.

"Most of our crew thought we could just wing it with passports. Luckily, I checked ahead and found out we needed the ED card. iVisa helped me sort it all out and share the info with everyone," said Andre C., traveler from St. John's planning a sailing trip.

When should I apply? 📅

Apply at least 72 hours before you arrive in the British Virgin Islands. We recommend applying as soon as your trip is confirmed, just in case you need to correct any errors.

💡 iVisa tip: Many travelers from Antigua book last-minute getaways to the BVI, especially around public holidays. If that’s your plan, submit your ED card as soon as you confirm your ferry or flight to avoid delays and opt for our super rush processing.

What do I need to apply?

To complete the application, you’ll need:

  • A valid Antigua and Barbuda passport
  • Your travel details (dates and arrival method)
  • Accommodation info (if applicable)
  • An email address to receive your ED card

What if I don't get an ED card? ❌

Without the ED card, you might be denied boarding or delayed at immigration. Some airlines and ferry operators won’t issue your ticket unless they see proof that you’ve submitted it.

"Our ferry from St. John’s left early, and I had no mobile data once we hit the dock. At iVisa’s suggestion, I printed my QR code and breezed right through immigration," said Melissa B., traveler from All Saints.
