Afghanistan Visa
Who is it for?
All travelers, regardless of their country of origin, need a visa to enter Afghanistan. After the Taliban took control of Afghanistan in 2021, they instructed the diplomatic missions established by the previous government, the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, to keep operating.
The current Taliban government recognizes visas issued by these missions for entry into Afghanistan. However, while some of these missions have ceased issuing visas, others continue to do so.
Who cannot apply?
The exceptions to visa entry rules are individuals who were either born in Afghanistan, have Afghan-born parents, or whose parents were born in Afghanistan. However, always check with your nearest embassy your specific requirements to enter the country.
Purpose?
The Afghanistan eVisa allows visitors to enter Afghanistan for tourism or humanitarian reasons. There is currently no reliable information available on other types of visas, such as work or residence permits.
Duration of stay?
The visa conditions may vary based on your purpose of travel, nationality, and the mission you’ve applied to.
Embassy Registration
This is not a visa, but a simple registration to provide info about your whereabouts and travel plans in Afghanistan at the embassy or nearest operating mission on behalf of your home country.
Who is it for?
We recommend that all travelers to Afghanistan register themselves at their nearest embassy. This Embassy Registration makes sure that your country knows where you are and what your plans are in the country.
Purpose?
Afghanistan is currently not safe for visitors, and it’s recommended to let an official representative of your country know that you’re traveling to the country, for whatever reason, and ensure they can contact you in case of an emergency.
