As an Italian citizen planning an adventure to Australia, your journey begins with securing the right visa.

Whether you're dreaming of exploring the cityscapes of Sydney, relaxing on the sun-drenched beaches of the Gold Coast, or experiencing the rugged beauty of the Outback, ensuring you have the correct travel authorization is essential.

But which visa is right for you? The Australia eVisitor Visa or the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA)? Let's help you decide.

Do Italian citizens need a visa to visit Australia?

Yes, Italian citizens need a visa to visit Australia. Let’s take a closer look at one of the visa types available to Italians.

The Australia eVisitor Visa(subclass 651) is an electronic, short-term visa linked to your passport, specifically designed for nationals from the European Union and a few other eligible countries.

This visa allows travelers to visit Australia multiple times within a 12-month period, with each stay lasting no more than three months. It’s a convenient option for short-term visits, whether you're traveling for tourism, business, or to visit family and friends.

Our focus is not only on processing applications but also on enhancing them to increase your chances of approval. We have a high approval rate of over 97%, making us a reliable visa partner for your travel plans.

Difficulty rating: Easy

The application process for the Australia eVisitor Visa is straightforward, with a difficulty rating of 8/100. Italian applicants typically find this process manageable, as it requires filling out 21 questions and submitting just 1 document—your passport.

However, we’ve found that some applicants struggle with the question about the "Passport number." In fact, more than 400 Italians have had a hard time inputting this important detail correctly.

iVisa pro tip: Double-check that your passport number is entered correctly, exactly as it appears on your passport. This small step can prevent delays and ensure a smoother application process.

Australia ETA vs. eVisitor Visa: Which one should you choose?

Both the Australia ETA (subclass 601) and the eVisitor Visa (subclass 651) offer similar benefits. They are valid for 1 year after being issued, allow you to stay in Australia for up to 90 days per entry, and grant multiple entries during the visa’s validity period.

These similarities make both options convenient for short-term visits, whether for tourism, business, or visiting family and friends. However, there are key differences that might influence your choice:

  • Processing time: The ETA is known for its faster processing time, often being approved almost instantly. This can be particularly useful if you need your visa on short notice.

  • Price: The ETA comes with a fee of AUD 20 (approximately USD 13), while the eVisitor Visa is completely free. This makes the eVisitor Visa a more cost-effective option, especially for budget-conscious travelers.

If you need your visa quickly and don’t mind paying a small fee, the ETA might be the better choice. However, if you're planning ahead and prefer to save on costs, the eVisitor Visa is the way to go.

If you’re considering a stay longer than 3 months at a time in Australia, neither the ETA nor the eVisitor Visa will do. In that case, you should apply for a different Australia Visa. You can visit the Australian Department of Home Affairs website for more information.
