Government Visa fee and Sustainable Development Fee

The Bhutan Visa cost set by the government is US$40.

Besides the visa fees, you’ll have to pay the Sustainable Development Fee (SDF). This is a daily fee that travelers need to pay to support the tourism council in protecting the country’s culture and environment, support new infrastructure, and build resilience.

  • The fee is US$200 per person, per night.

  • Children under 6 years old don’t need to pay this fee. Children between the ages of 6 and 12 must pay US$50 per night.

  • Indian nationals must pay 1,200 ngultrums for the SDF. They can also pay it in rupees.

Good news! There is a 50% discount on the SDF until the 31st of August, 2027. The 50% discount only applies to travelers who pay with US dollars. You must pay the fee during your visa application.

We don’t include these fees in our service costs. During your application process, we will help you transfer these fees directly to the Bhutan government.

Bhutan entry requirements or restrictions

When visiting Bhutan, there are some entry requirements and restrictions to keep in mind to ensure a smooth and enjoyable trip:

  • Entry points: Foreign visitors, except those from India, Bangladesh, and the Maldives, can enter or leave Bhutan only through select towns like Phuntsoling, Samdrup Jongkhar, Gelephug (by road), or Paro (by air with Bhutan Airlines).

  • COVID-19: All COVID-19 restrictions on entry to Bhutan have been lifted, and travelers no longer need to provide a PCR test or undergo quarantine to enter the country.

Please note that some websites may mention a minimum daily spend and that an official tour operator must book the trip to Bhutan. This rule has been replaced by the Sustainable Development Fee and is no longer in effect.
