Are you a Chinese citizen planning to visit India? It’s essential to understand the visa requirements before your trip to ensure a smooth process. Below, we provide the most up-to-date and accurate information on the India visa application process for Chinese nationals.

Do Chinese citizens need an India Visa?

Yes, Chinese citizens need a visa to enter India, regardless of the purpose of travel—whether it's for tourism, business, medical treatment, or to visit family and friends.

eVisa suspension for Chinese nationals

Currently, the Indian government has suspended the issuance of eVisas for Chinese nationals. This includes previously issued eVisas, which are no longer valid until further notice.

Therefore, Chinese citizens must apply for a traditional paper visa at an Indian embassy or consulate. Here’s how to do it.

Documents required to apply for an Indian visa from China

To apply for an Indian visa, you will need the following documents:

  • Passport: Your passport must have at least 6 months of validity from your arrival date in India, with at least two blank pages for visa stamps.

  • Completed visa application form: Fill out the visa application form online via the official Indian visa portal.

  • Passport-size photographs: These must meet the specific visa photo requirements set out by the Indian government.

  • Proof of travel: This includes a confirmed flight itinerary and proof of accommodation.

  • Financial proof: Bank statements showing sufficient funds to cover your trip expenses.

Depending on the purpose of travel, you may need to provide additional documents (e.g., business visa applicants must provide a notarized university degree and police clearance).

How to apply for an Indian visa from China

Follow these steps to apply for an Indian visa:

1.Fill out the online visa application form: This can be done via the Indian government’s official visa portal.

2.Gather the required documents: Make sure all your documents are in order, including your passport, photos, and travel details.

3.Schedule an appointment: Chinese nationals must schedule an appointment at one of the India Visa Application Centres (IVACs) located in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Hong Kong.

4.Attend your appointment: Bring all your documents and be prepared for biometric data collection unless exempt (for example, children under 12 or adults over 70).

5.Submit your application and pay the visa fee: You’ll complete your visa submission at the IVAC and pay the required fees.

How will I receive my India visa?

After processing, you will be notified to collect your passport with the visa at the India Visa Application Centre where you submitted your application. The processing time can vary, so it’s recommended to apply well in advance of your trip.

Can Chinese residents apply for an India Tourist eVisa?

Currently, Chinese nationals are not eligible for the India Tourist eVisa due to the suspension of eVisa services for China. However, if you reside in China but hold a passport from another country, you may still be eligible.

Visit our India Tourist eVisa page for more details on eligibility.
