Summary
  • New ETA requirement: Starting in 2025, Cyprus citizens without an ETA-IL will be denied boarding and entry to Israel.
  • Easy application: Apply online without visiting an embassy, get multiple entries for two years, and stay up to 90 days per visit for tourism, business, or transit.
  • Avoid common mistakes: Double-check your details, apply at least a week before travel, and always carry a printed ETA.

Planning a trip from Cyprus to Israel? There’s one new travel rule you need to know about: the Israel Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA or ETA-IL).

Even if you have traveled to Israel without a visa or ETA before, these rules have changed. Read more below, and avoid being denied entry.

What has changed for Cyprus citizens traveling to Israel?

Starting January 1, 2025, Israel now requires travelers from visa-exempt countries, including Cyprus, to have the ETA-IL before entering the country.

This isn’t a visa, but think of it as an electronic permission slip. Without it, you won’t be allowed to board your flight or enter Israel.

"I got my ETA just in time, but there were a few people who got denied boarding because they didn't know about it." - Eleni L., recent traveler

What you must know about the Israel ETA-IL

Here's a quick overview:

Feature What it means
Easy online application No embassy visits needed – apply from the comfort of your home.
Multiple entries Visit Israel as many times as you like over two years.
Long stays Stay for up to 90 days per visit.
Flexible purposes Use it for tourism, business, or transit.

How to apply for the ETA-IL from Cyprus

The application is entirely online. Just follow these simple steps:

1️⃣ Fill out your information: Head over to the official Israeli government portal, our online platform, or the iVisa mobile app to start your application.

2️⃣ Pay the fees: Make sure your credit card is approved for international transactions, or use our flexible and secure platform with options such as PayPal, Venmo, and more.

3️⃣ Upload your documents with ease and wait for your confirmation and approval by email.

💡Femke Strietman, iVisa travel expert, recommends:

"Most approvals come through within 72 hours, but it’s best to apply at least a week before your trip, especially given the current political climate."

Remember: Print your ETA confirmation and also keep a digital version handy to show at immigration upon arrival.

What you need for your Israel ETA-IL application

You’ll only need a valid Cypriot passport with at least three months’ validity upon arrival in Israel.

However, upon entry to Israel you may still be asked for:

✔️ A valid return ticket

✔️ Bank statements or financial proof to show you can pay for your trip

✔️ Proof of your travel itinerary and accommodation details

✔️ Extra security checks: One of the most important things to keep in mind is that Israel has strict border control, and all travelers may undergo questioning upon arrival.

💡Michael Angelo from The Project Kosmos shared his experience:

"I was questioned for almost 4 hours upon arrival in Israel since I’m a filmmaker traveling the world. It was intense, but once done, the rest of the process was smooth."

Avoid these common Israel ETA mistakes by Cyprus applicants

Many travelers face rejections or travel delays due to simple mistakes in their ETA applications. Here’s how to avoid the most common ones:
