Summary
  • Brazilians must apply for ETIAS to enter Italy and the rest of the Schengen Area, from late 2026.

  • It’s not a visa, just a simple digital screening tied to your passport, similar to the US ESTA.

  • ETIAS is valid for 3 years and allows multiple short visits under 90 day.

If you’re a Brazilian passport holder dreaming of traveling to Italy, take note: ETIAS will soon be mandatory.

Starting in mid- to late 2026, Brazilians must register for ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System) before traveling to Italy or any other Schengen country.

It’s not a visa, but it is a legal requirement, much like the U.S. ESTA.

Is a visa required for Brazilians to visit Italy?

No visa needed, but starting in 2026, ETIAS approval will be required.

Italy remains visa-free for Brazilian citizens visiting short-term (under 90 days), but ETIAS will add digital pre-clearance before departure.

💡 Larissa, a Brazilian tour guide in Rome:

“It’s quick and online. if it’s anything like ESTA, you'll manage fine. Just another thing to tick off the list!”

How will ETIAS work for Brazilians?

The ETIAS system checks your travel info in advance. Most approvals happen within minutes.

To apply, you’ll need:

  • A Brazilian passport valid 3+ months beyond your stay
  • A credit/debit card
  • A valid email
  • Your planned entry date and country

💡 iVisa travel expert Femke Strietman says:

“For smooth travel, apply at least a few days in advance. Especially during the launch period.”

Step-by-step: Apply for ETIAS from Brazil

1️⃣ Visit the ETIAS website or apply through iVisa or the iVisa mobile app

2️⃣ Enter your passport and trip details and pay securely online

3️⃣Get your ETIAS confirmation via email

No need to print it. It’s electronically linked to your passport.

ETIAS validity information for Brazilian travelers

  • Valid for 3 years or until your passport expires
  • Covers Italy + 29 other European countries
  • Allows multiple short trips (90 days in any 180-day period)
