My friends and I are driving through West Africa, and we’re aiming to cross into Ivory Coast from Guinea. We're thinking of using the land border at Pamelap. I’ve been looking into getting an eVisa, but everything I’m finding seems to suggest they're only valid for air arrivals. Can we still get an eVisa to enter Ivory Coast by road? Or do we need to go a different route for our visa?

Currently, the eVisa for Ivory Coast is only valid for entry through Abidjan's Port Bouet Airport (also known as Félix-Houphouët-Boigny International Airport). If you're planning to enter by road, such as at the Pamelap border from Guinea, you will need to obtain a different type of visa. You should contact the nearest Ivorian embassy or consulate for guidance on how to get the best visa type that suits your travel needs.

I’m planning an overland trip from Jo’burg to Ivory Coast. I’m looking into all the visas I need and came across an eVisa and a biometric visa for Ivory Coast. What’s the difference between these two? And which one would be more suitable for someone traveling by road like me?

The eVisa for Ivory Coast is applied for online and is suitable for short visits (up to 90 days), and is usually processed within 48 hours. It's perfect for tourism, business, or visiting friends and relatives but must be used at specified air entry points only, namely the Abidjan airport. A biometric visa, on the other hand, may require a visit to a consulate or embassy to provide biometric data and would be more appropriate for road travelers like yourself, as it can accommodate entry through various ports including land and sea borders. If you’re planning to enter Ivory Coast by road, you’ll likely need a biometric visa.

I’m traveling from Paris to Abidjan and I’m confused about the visa start date for the Côte d'Ivoire eVisa. The application form asks for a travel date, but what if my actual arrival ends up being different because of flight changes or delays? Does the 90-day validity begin from the approval date, the date I put on the form, or the day I actually land in Abidjan? I’d hate to face any issues if there’s a problem with my flights.

The 90-day validity period for the Ivory Coast eVisa begins from the date specified as your 'travel date' on the application form. This means if there are changes or delays in your flight, you need to ensure that you arrive within this 90-day window to avoid issues at the border. If your travel plans are likely to change, it's advisable to set the travel date on your eVisa application to a later date within your expected travel period to accommodate potential delays.
