Who can travel to Malawi visa-free?
Citizens of the following 33 countries can visit Malawi for up to 90 days without a visa:

How long is the Malawi eVisa valid?
We offer two different types of Malawi eVisas:

Single-entry eVisa: You must use the visa within 90 days from issuance, with a maximum stay of 90 days per entry.

Multiple-entry eVisa: You can enter Malawi multiple times (for example, to visit other countries on your trip) within 180 days from issuance of the visa. Each stay may last up to 90 days per entry.
Can I extend my Malawi eVisa?
In certain situations, the Malawi Department of Immigration may extend your visa, for instance, for medical reasons or if unexpected circumstances prevented your departure before the visa expiry. Proof of the need for an extension will be required.
You can apply for an extension at the Malawi Immigration Department in Lilongwe. Bring your passport, a copy of your passport, your original visa confirmation, cash to pay for the extension, and any other supporting documents, such as a medical certificate. It can take several weeks to process.

The required documents for the Malawi eVisa application typically include:

Copy of your valid passport bio data page: Ensure it has a minimum of 6 months validity upon arrival in Malawi.

Proof of accommodation: You'll need a hotel confirmation or a letter (signed) from your host in Malawi to confirm where you’ll be staying.

Additional documentation for children: When applying on behalf of a child or a minor, you must provide their birth certificates, and parental consent, and a copy of the absent parent’s passport, if traveling with just one parent/legal guardian.

Once approved, you’ll receive the eVisa approval letter by email. We advise you to save a copy on your smartphone as well as keep a printed copy to show to immigration officials upon arrival.
Malawi eVisa application costs and processing time
iVisa currently offers three processing options for the Malawi visa online application process with the following fees:

Standard processing: Our thorough review takes up to 10 days for a fee of USD $101.99 for the single-entry visa, and up to 10 days for a fee of USD $101.99 for the multiple-entry visa.

Rush processing: This option takes up to 9 days and costs USD $119.99 for the single-entry visa.

Super Rush processing: For urgent requests, choose this option for processing of up to 7 days which costs USD $143.99 for the single-entry visa.
The government visa fee of USD $53.00 /single entry and USD $53.00 /multiple entry is included in the above total fees and can be paid securely online together with a credit or debit card, PayPal, or Venmo.
Do I need the Malawi eVisa if I’m transiting through the country?
You can transit through the country with the Malawi e-Visa, but a transit e-Visas is also available online. This is a single-entry permit that allows travelers to stay in the country for a maximum of 7 days between flights.
To check if you qualify for this particular transit visa, contact your nearest Malawi Embassy or the online e-visa portal.

The reason for rejection is not always known. You are eligible for a refund of the iVisa processing fee if your visa application is rejected. Please note that the government fee cannot be refunded.
