Planning a trip from South Africa to Nigeria? You can no longer rely on getting a visa at the airport. As of May 30, 2025, the visa-on-arrival program is ending, and travelers without a pre-approved eVisa risk being turned away at the border.
Here’s how to apply online, what to expect at the airport, and what documents you need — all tailored to South African travelers.
Do South Africans need a visa for Nigeria?
Yes. The Nigeria eVisa is a single-entry travel document that lets South African citizens visit Nigeria for up to 30 days. The entire application is online - no consulate visits, no paper forms, no interviews.
✋ Important: After May 30, 2025, you won’t be allowed to board your flight without an eVisa linked to your passport. If you already have a visa-on-arrival approval, you'll still be able to enter the country with it until that date.
