I don't need a visa for Nigeria but do I need this landing card?

Hello Ibrahim, thank you for your question. Yes, even if you don’t need a visa, you still need the landing card. This part trips a lot of travelers up.

The Nigeria landing card similar to a customs declaration form. It’s not a visa, and it doesn’t replace one, but it’s mandatory for all foreigners entering Nigeria (including ECOWAS citizens from Ghana like you), whether you’re there for a short visit, business, or tourism. Doesn’t matter if your nationality is visa-exempt - the landing card is still required.

Basically, it’s the government’s way of keeping track of who’s coming into the country, and without it, you could face delays or even risk being turned away.

I saw I need a landing card but also an exit card, is it the same thing, or how do I get them both?

Hi Jane, thank you for the question. They’re actually two separate documents:

  • The landing card is what you need when you arrive in Nigeria.
  • The exit card is for when you’re leaving.

They’re both part of Nigeria’s new digital entry/exit system (no more filling out paper forms on the plane!).

Right now, you can get the landing card through us here at iVisa, super easily.

As for the exit card, it’s currently only available through the official Nigerian government site and can be filled out within 96 hours before your departure. Just a heads-up: their site can be a bit glitchy, so it’s good to try early in case you hit any tech issues.

We’re hoping to offer the exit card soon too, but for now, it’s a separate process.

Do I need to print anything? I don't have a printer at home

Hi Oona, we understand not everyone has a printer handy these days.

Authorities do recommend printing your landing card, just in case. It can make things smoother at the airport, especially if there are Wi-Fi issues or if they ask to see a paper copy.

However, you can also show the digital version directly from your email on your phone or tablet. Just make sure the document is downloaded and easily accessible offline, so you're not stuck searching for a signal when you land.

Make sure the passport you’re using to travel to Nigeria is the one that you used to register for landing card (and eVisa - if applicable) - authorities will check if the passport numbers match what you’ve entered online.
