Here’s what you need to know about the current travel restrictions and requirements to ensure a smooth and enjoyable visit.

Visa requirements

Depending on your nationality, you might need a Puerto Rico B1/B2 Visa or an ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) to enter Puerto Rico. It's essential to verify the specific entry requirements for your country of origin to ensure you have the necessary documentation.

Other documents and requirements to visit Puerto Rico

The REAL ID Act will be in effect as of May 2025. This means that domestic travelers must show a REAL ID-compliant license or another acceptable form of identification to fly within the U.S., including Puerto Rico.

COVID-19 entry requirements

Domestic travelers:

Travelers from the mainland United States do not need to provide proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test to enter Puerto Rico. This change simplifies travel, making it easier for U.S. citizens to visit.

International travelers:

Visitors arriving from international destinations who are neither U.S. citizens nor permanent residents must present proof of vaccination. However, a negative COVID-19 test is no longer required for travelers, including U.S. citizens and permanent residents.

Masks are recommended in public spaces, enclosed environments, and public transportation but are not mandatory. Individual establishments may enforce their own mask policies, so carrying a mask with you is wise.

There is no quarantine requirement for visitors, regardless of vaccination status. However, if you test positive for COVID-19 while in Puerto Rico, you must quarantine and cover your own medical and accommodation expenses until you test negative.

Open businesses and attractions

All restaurants and bars are open without capacity limits, so travelers can enjoy the full range of dining and entertainment options that Puerto Rico has to offer.

Due to high demand, especially as tourism rebounds, booking flights and accommodations in advance is advisable. Popular attractions might require reservations, so plan ahead to avoid missing out on your desired activities.

Tourism is a significant part of Puerto Rico's economy. Supporting local businesses enhances your travel experience and contributes to the island's economic recovery. Consider dining at local restaurants, staying in boutique hotels, and purchasing souvenirs from local artisans.

Thus, Puerto Rico is open and welcoming to visitors with its rich culture, beautiful landscapes, and vibrant communities.
