What else to know before traveling to Saint Helena
Saint Helena, Ascension, and Tristan da Cunha are a group of islands located in the South Atlantic, part of the British Overseas Territories.
The island of St Helena is so remote that air travel only became possible in 2017, opening up this relatively unknown destination to tourism. You can reach Saint Helena by a 6-hour flight from Johannesburg, South Africa or on the selected cruise or cargo ships.
Despite the dramatic coastlines, further inland you'll find rolling hills, jagged volcanic mountains, and leafy coffee plantations. It is said that the coffee from Saint Helena is among the world's best (as well as the most expensive). Apparently, Napoleon was a fan who spent the final years of his exile here. Plenty to explore!
