What is the Saudi Arabia Umrah visa?

An Umrah visa is a travel document issued by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, allowing you to enter the country for the Umrah pilgrimage. You can perform Umrah at any time of the year. With this visa, you can visit the holy cities of Jeddah, Makkah (Mecca), and Medina.

It's important to note that this visa cannot be used for Hajj. If you plan to perform Hajj, you'll need a separate Hajj visa, even within the same season as Umrah.

Umrah Visa rules

In 2024, the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah introduced new rules for the Umrah visa. Now, the Umrah visa is valid for 90 days from the issue date. Previously, the validity started from the moment you arrived in Saudi Arabia. This change gives pilgrims more flexibility in planning their trips.

Additionally, Umrah visas for pilgrims from outside the country will expire on 15 Dhu al-Qa’dah, instead of the previous 29 Dhu al-Qa’dah deadline. This adjustment gives Saudi authorities more time to prepare for the Hajj season.

Tip: “Planning your trip well in advance is key, especially as visa processing times may take up to 10 days. Start early to avoid delays.” — Asma, a seasoned Umrah traveler.

Types of Saudi Arabia Umrah visas for Pakistani nationals

Pakistani nationals can apply for an Umrah visa by booking an Umrah package through an approved service provider or a licensed travel agency in Pakistan. Unfortunately, Pakistanis are not eligible for the Saudi Arabia Tourist eVisa that other nationalities can use for Umrah.

How to apply for a Saudi Arabia Umrah visa from Pakistan

Here’s a quick guide to applying for an Umrah visa from Pakistan:

1.Find an approved travel agency: You must work with a licensed travel agent to apply for your Umrah visa. These agencies offer a range of Umrah packages to fit different budgets.

2.Prepare the required documents: Collect all necessary documents and submit them to your agency. This typically includes your passport, a passport photo, and proof of vaccination.

3.Register on the Umrah apps: Once you arrive in Saudi Arabia, you must download two mandatory apps: the Tawakkalna app (for health records) and the Etmarna app (for prayer permits).

“Keep all your documents well-organized, especially your health records, to avoid delays during entry. I used a document wallet, which made the process much easier.”—Shahid from Karachi.

Umrah visa requirements for Pakistani citizens

To apply for an Umrah visa, Pakistani citizens need the following:

  • A completed Umrah visa application form

  • A recent passport photo

  • A valid passport with at least six months of validity from the date of application

  • Non-refundable flight tickets

  • Proof of relationship between female pilgrims and their mahram (husband, father, or brother)

  • Health insurance, including Covid-19 coverage

  • Proof of meningitis vaccination

Though the requirements may seem overwhelming, most Umrah packages cover visas, accommodation, transportation, and medical insurance.

Saudi Arabia Umrah visa fees

The cost of an Umrah visa varies depending on the service provider but generally falls between $380 and $490 USD. When combined with an Umrah package, which includes accommodation and transportation, expect a total cost ranging from $1,500 to $2,000 USD per person.

“Look out for hidden fees when booking through travel agents. Always ask for a complete breakdown of costs to avoid surprises,” advises Yusuf from Islamabad.
