How to apply for a Sri Lanka ETA

Currently, we do not offer this visa for Indian travelers, and you can only apply for the ETA through the Sri Lankan government.

Steps to apply through the government:

1.Gather required documents:

  • Passport scan: Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your arrival date in Sri Lanka.

  • Email address: Provide a valid email, as the ETA will be sent to this address once approved.

  • Payment method: A credit or debit card to pay the visa fee.

2.Submit your application: Apply through the official Sri Lanka government ETA portal by filling in your personal details and travel information. You are not required to book a flight before applying.

3.Receive your ETA: Once your application is processed and approved, your ETA will be sent to your email. Ensure your passport details match the ETA to avoid any entry issues.

"Keep a printed copy of your ETA, a confirmed return flight ticket, and your accommodation details on hand for smooth entry." — Cynthia Oliwa, iVisa travel journalist.

Can Indian citizens extend their stay in Sri Lanka with a Sri Lanka ETA?

Yes, Indian citizens can extend their stay by visiting an immigration office in Sri Lanka. Extensions can be granted for up to 180 days beyond the initial 30 days of the ETA. You will need to show a valid reason for your extended stay and proof of funds for the additional time in the country.

Do Indian passport holders need a transit visa for Sri Lanka?

If you stay in the transit area for less than 48 hours, you don’t need a transit visa. However, crew members and children under 12 are exempt from needing a transit visa.
