Summary
  • Malaysian passport holders will need ETIAS from 2026 to visit Switzerland or any Schengen country for short stays.

  • ETIAS is not a visa, but a mandatory digital travel authorization valid for 3 years and multiple entries.

  • Apply easily online, no need to visit an embassy. iVisa is here to help if you have any questions.

Planning a trip to Switzerland in 2026? Malaysian passport holders will soon need to apply for the ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System) to enter Switzerland or any other Schengen country.

While it’s not a visa, ETIAS is a mandatory digital travel authorization, similar to the U.S. ESTA or UK ETA.

Do Malaysians need a visa for Switzerland?

Not quite. Malaysians can still enjoy visa-free entry for short stays up to 90 days within any 180-day period, but you’ll need ETIAS pre-approval before departure starting in 2026.

💡 Travel tip from Adam, a frequent Malaysian business traveler:

“I didn’t need a visa before, so hearing about ETIAS was a surprise, but it seems simple enough. I’m glad it lasts for multiple trips!

What is ETIAS, and why is it required?

ETIAS is a digital screening system that cross-checks travelers against EU security databases before you arrive in the Schengen Area.

  • ETIAS is not a visa
  • Mandatory for short-term tourism, transit, business, or medical visits
  • Valid for 3 years or until your passport expires
  • Allows multiple entries to 30 countries

How to apply for Switzerland ETIAS as a Malaysian

Once ETIAS launches in 2026, you can apply online in just a few steps:

1️⃣ Fill out the application on our website or mobile app – Provide basic details, including your passport number and intended travel dates.

2️⃣ Pay the fee online – Use a debit card, credit card, or PayPal.

3️⃣ Wait for email confirmation – Most approvals arrive within hours.

ETIAS requirements for Malaysians

Here's what you need to apply:

✔️ A Malaysian passport (valid at least 3 months after your departure)

✔️ A working email address

✔️ A credit/debit card or PayPal account

✔️ Basic info about your travel plans, like travel dates, itinerary, and where you'll be staying

💡 Femke Strietman, iVisa travel expert:

“Since this is a new document and system, apply at least one week in advance. Most approvals are fast, but better safe than sorry.”

How much does ETIAS cost?

While nothing is set in stone yet, we currently expect the following:

  • €7 for travelers aged 18–70 (excluding iVisa service fee)
  • Free for travelers under 18 or over 70
  • iVisa service fees vary by processing speed

Check back regularly for news. We'll update this page as soon as new info about ETIAS becomes available.

Common questions from Malaysian travelers

🟡 Can I apply for ETIAS before booking flights?

Yes! Just provide estimated dates, no need to lock in travel plans yet.

🟡 Is ETIAS valid for multiple trips?

Yes, for 3 years or until your passport expires, whichever comes first.

🟡 What if my passport changes?

You’ll need to reapply since ETIAS is linked to your passport number.

🟡 Can I still enter Switzerland without ETIAS before it launches?

Yes. ETIAS isn’t required until mid- to late 2026, so no need to apply for trips that take place this year.

🟡 Can I study or work in Switzerland with ETIAS?

No, ETIAS only covers short tourism or business visits. For study or work, you’ll need a different visa.
