Summary

Bhutanese citizens heading to Thailand need both a visa and the Digital Arrival Card, and we’re here to make that process easy.

This guide breaks down the visa options (like Visa on Arrival and eVOA), how to apply for the mandatory Arrival Card with iVisa, what documents to pack, and how to handle longer stays.

Whether you're planning a quick holiday or something more extended, we've got the info you need to travel with confidence.

Planning a trip from Bhutan to Thailand? Great choice. With a bit of prep, your journey can be smooth and stress-free. Here's the lowdown on the current visa requirements for Bhutanese travelers, and how we at iVisa can help.

🇧🇹 Do Bhutanese citizens need a visa for Thailand?

Yes. Bhutanese citizens are required to obtain a visa before entering Thailand. In addition, all travelers, regardless of visa status, must complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card before their trip.

So if you’re a Bhutanese traveler, you’ll need:

  • A valid Thai visa (such as a tourist visa or visa on arrival, depending on your entry point)
  • A completed Thailand Digital Arrival Card submitted before arrival

"The Thailand Digital Arrival Card is not a visa, and it does not replace the visa requirement. It is a separate travel form required for entry."

🛂 Current visa options for Bhutanese travelers

Bhutanese citizens can enter Thailand with one of the following:

1. Visa on Arrival (VOA): Bhutan is currently on the list of countries eligible for a Visa on Arrival. This is issued at select airports in Thailand and allows a stay of up to 15 days.

2. Electronic Visa on Arrival (eVOA): Through iVisa, travelers can pre-register for their Visa on Arrival to speed up processing on arrival at major international airports in Thailand, including:

  • Suvarnabhumi International Airport (Bangkok)
  • Don Mueang International Airport (Bangkok)
  • Chiang Mai International Airport
  • Phuket International Airport

3. Traditional visa: For longer stays or other purposes, such as business, education, or volunteer work, you’ll need to apply through the Thai Embassy.

Where to apply:

Unfortunately, we do not currently offer the option to apply for these visas with us, and you will need to apply directly through the Thai government.

You can also apply at the nearest embassy:

Royal Thai Embassy – Dhaka, Bangladesh House 55, Road 1A, Dhanmondi R/A, Dhaka 1209, Bangladesh Email: [email protected] Tel: +880 2 5881 3260 to 1, 5881 2795

🧳 Visa extensions and long stays

If you're planning a longer stay, here are other visa types you might explore (via the embassy):

Visa Type Initial Duration Extension Notes
Tourist Visa (TR) 60 days 30 days Apply in advance via embassy
Non-Immigrant B 90 days 1 year For business or employment
Education Visa 90 days 1 year For full-time study in Thailand

We don’t currently assist with these long-term visas, but we recommend applying directly through the Thai Embassy.

đź“© What is the Thailand Digital Arrival Card?

Aside from a visa, the Thailand Digital Arrival Card is a required online entry form for all travelers, including Bhutanese citizens. It must be completed and submitted at least 72 hours before arrival, and you'll need to show it to immigration officers when you land.

It's not a visa and doesn't replace one, and you do need both to enter.

Want help? You can apply for the Digital Arrival Card with us. We’ll make sure it’s filled out accurately and submitted on time, so you can travel stress-free.
