Planning a trip from Bhutan to Thailand? Great choice. With a bit of prep, your journey can be smooth and stress-free. Here's the lowdown on the current visa requirements for Bhutanese travelers, and how we at iVisa can help.
🇧🇹 Do Bhutanese citizens need a visa for Thailand?
Yes. Bhutanese citizens are required to obtain a visa before entering Thailand. In addition, all travelers, regardless of visa status, must complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card before their trip.
So if you’re a Bhutanese traveler, you’ll need:
- A valid Thai visa (such as a tourist visa or visa on arrival, depending on your entry point)
- A completed Thailand Digital Arrival Card submitted before arrival
"The Thailand Digital Arrival Card is not a visa, and it does not replace the visa requirement. It is a separate travel form required for entry."
🛂 Current visa options for Bhutanese travelers
Bhutanese citizens can enter Thailand with one of the following:
1. Visa on Arrival (VOA):
Bhutan is currently on the list of countries eligible for a Visa on Arrival. This is issued at select airports in Thailand and allows a stay of up to 15 days.
2. Electronic Visa on Arrival (eVOA):
Through iVisa, travelers can pre-register for their Visa on Arrival to speed up processing on arrival at major international airports in Thailand, including:
- Suvarnabhumi International Airport (Bangkok)
- Don Mueang International Airport (Bangkok)
- Chiang Mai International Airport
- Phuket International Airport
3. Traditional visa:
For longer stays or other purposes, such as business, education, or volunteer work, you’ll need to apply through the Thai Embassy.
Where to apply:
Unfortunately, we do not currently offer the option to apply for these visas with us, and you will need to apply directly through the Thai government.
You can also apply at the nearest embassy:
