About the Diversity Visa
The Diversity Visa will allow you to live in the United States as a permanent resident. If you are selected as a winner, you must enter the country within six months from the date your new visa is issued.
So, make sure to enter the United States before the expiration date. Below, you can learn more about this lottery and how to apply.
Which countries can apply for the DV Lottery?
Citizens who come from countries that don’t usually send many immigrants to the United States are chosen to increase the diversity of the immigrants that enter the U.S.
Please check our FAQ section below to understand which countries fall under this category and the terms and conditions under which you’ll be able to apply for the Diversity Visa Lottery Program.
As you can only apply once, our expert review service will ensure that your application is error-free, increasing your chances of being selected.
How can I apply for the DV Lottery Program?
To apply for this program, you must fill out a simple online form, available with us.
The sooner you apply, the sooner you’ll be able to correct any errors on your application form before the DV Lottery opens.
Once we make sure your application is correct, we will hold onto it until the DV Lottery Program starts in October. When it does, we’ll submit the form and email you the confirmation number.
Once you submit your application, you’ll be able to check its status in early May of the year following submission of your application. You must save your confirmation number so you’re able to see if you were selected or not.
If you’re one of the randomly chosen winners, you'll also receive a preparation guide to help you prepare for the interview.
How long does the application process take?
Going through this process alone can take a long time since there are a few forms to fill out and many requirements to meet to get the Diversity Visa. The lottery winners normally get a notification 7 months after their application.
In addition, waiting to receive an interview at the embassy can take up to 14 months.
Don’t worry! We are here to save you time and effort and make sure you have an easy and stress-free application process.
Should I apply to the Diversity Visa Lottery Program outside or inside the United States?
The vast majority of people who are selected for the Diversity Visa aren’t in the United States and will apply for a green card through the U.S. consulate in their home country.
However, if you’re in the United States with temporary immigration status, you’re also able to apply for the Diversity Visa Lottery Program.

Hi Samuel,
The wait time can vary depending on your case. If you’re selected in the DV Lottery, you’ll need to submit additional forms and attend an interview at a US Embassy or Consulate. The process can take several months to over a year.
It’s important to follow the instructions carefully and respond to any requests promptly to avoid delays. Patience is key, but it’ll be worth it once you’ve got that visa in hand.
Hi Ousmane,
Yes, you can. If you were born in Guinea, you’re eligible to apply for the DV Lottery, no matter where you currently live. If you’re selected, you’d typically process your visa application at the US Embassy or Consulate in the country where you’re living legally—so in your case, that would likely be China.
Let us know if you need help with the process. We’d love to assist you. Connect with us via WhatsApp (https://wa.link/9ng7z1) or iVisa chat (/contact-us).
Hi Patrick,
Great question. Winning the DV Lottery and getting permanent residence in the US gives you the freedom to live and work anywhere in the country. The type of job you get will mostly depend on your skills, education, and work experience.
If you’re highly skilled or have specific qualifications, you can aim for jobs in those fields. But even if you’re just starting out or changing careers, there are plenty of opportunities in industries like retail, construction, and hospitality. The US is known for its diverse job market, so you’ve got options.
Hi Ariful,
Yes, you can. The DV Lottery is open to people from qualifying countries. If you’re born in an eligible country and meet the education or work experience requirements, you can apply.
At iVisa, we make it easy and stress-free to enter the lottery. We’ll handle the details, review your entry for errors, and ensure everything is submitted correctly during the official registration period. Let us know if you’d like to get started. Reach out to us via WhatsApp (https://wa.link/9ng7z1) or iVisa chat (/contact-us).
Hi Akello,
Good news—yes, you can. Starting with the DV-2025 program, a passport is no longer required when entering the DV Lottery. This change has made it easier for more people to participate.
So, even if you don’t have a passport right now, you can still apply. When the time comes for further processing, you’ll need to have a valid passport, but for entering the lottery, you’re good to go without one.
Hi Sakil,
That’s a great question. The most direct way to apply for the DV Lottery is through the US government’s official website during the registration period. But honestly, the process can be a bit tricky. Small errors—like a wrong photo format or missed details—can get your entry disqualified.
With iVisa, we make it easier. You can apply anytime during the year, and when the registration period opens, we’ll submit your application for you. We also review your entry carefully to ensure it’s error-free, so you can feel more confident about your chances.
If you’re interested, we’d be happy to help you get started. Get in touch with us through WhatsApp (https://wa.link/9ng7z1) or iVisa chat (/contact-us).
After submitting your DV Lottery form on our platform, we’ll send you a confirmation email with your name and a unique confirmation number.
When you apply directly on the US government website, you’ll see a confirmation screen with your name and confirmation number once you submit the form. Unfortunately, the US government doesn’t send confirmation emails, so saving this number is the only way to check your entry status later on.
Small errors can lead to disqualification, so be careful with your application. Some examples of common mistakes made include:
-
Submitting a photo that doesn't meet the specifications.
-
Failing to list all your dependents.
-
Providing inaccurate personal information that doesn’t match your passport or identification documents.
-
Submitting more than one entry per person leads to automatic disqualification. Each individual is allowed only one entry, though a husband and wife may each submit one entry if both meet the eligibility requirements.
-
Putting the wrong country of eligibility. Your application must correctly reflect your country of eligibility, which is usually your country of birth.
When applying for the US DV Lottery, you should include your spouse and any children who are under 21 years old and unmarried. These family members are considered dependants who can obtain a Green Card if you win the lottery. You should include these family members in your application from the start, as failing to do so can disqualify you from the process.
You cannot include your parents, siblings, or any children over 21 years old in your DV Lottery application. If you win, these family members do not automatically qualify to move with you under the same application. However, once you are established in the US and possibly become a citizen, you can sponsor family members, such as your parents, for their own Green Cards through a different immigration process.
