I'm currently studying in Miami on an F1 visa and my friends and I are super excited about planning a short trip to the Bahamas. We're hoping to explore Nassau and maybe some of the Out Islands. I'm from Haiti and I'm wondering if my F1 visa is enough for me to visit the Bahamas without a separate travel visa for a short stay under 30 days.

Yes, you will need a separate visa to visit the Bahamas. Being from Haiti and studying in the US on an F1 visa doesn't exempt you from needing a Bahamas visa for your trip. You can apply for a Bahamas eVisa online, which is valid for short stays and must be used within 90 days of issuance.

I’ve booked a cruise with MSC that will stop in Nassau and Ocean Cay in the Bahamas. I’m wondering about the visa requirements. Do I need to apply for a Bahamas eVisa for these stops or is there a special arrangement for cruise ship passengers?

Non-US citizens traveling to the Bahamas on a cruise are generally required to have a valid visa to enter the island unless they qualify for visa-free entry. Because Nigerians are not visa-exempt, you will definitely need a Bahamas eVisa. However, some cruise lines may provide a temporary visa for passengers. Please check with your cruise line before you depart to avoid any issues.

I’ve finally booked that Bahamas trip I’ve been dreaming about. But my passport expires in September and my trip is in August. That’s cutting it close with just a month of validity left after I return. Can I still travel with my current passport or should it have more validity beyond my travel dates?

For travel to the Bahamas, your passport needs to be valid for at least six months beyond the date of your departure from the country. Since your passport expires just one month after your trip in August, you should renew it before you travel to avoid any issues at immigration.
