Getting ready for your Kenyan adventure? Understand which visa you need with the introduction of the Kenya ETA.
In January 2024, Kenya rolled out the Kenya Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA), taking over from the old eVisa system. This revamped system is designed to make entering Kenya easier, encouraging more visitors to explore this East African destination.
The shift isn't just about replacing the eVisa; the Kenya ETA now covers several other visa categories. Here's your quick guide to understanding Kenya's visa landscape post-ETA introduction.
What are the available visas to visit Kenya?
The Kenya ETA now serves as the replacement for the country's previous short-stay visas. It's your ticket to Kenya for brief stays, whether you're there for tourism, business activities, educational pursuits, health-related visits, or transiting through the country.
Should your plans include staying in Kenya beyond 90 days, you'll need to secure the right visa from a Kenyan embassy or consulate near you.
Duration of a Kenya ETA
The Kenya ETA is valid for 90 days after issued and allows for a Single entry into the country.
Who can apply for the Kenya ETA?
Every international traveler, including minors and babies, must secure a Kenya ETA before arriving in the country, even if they previously didn't need a visa or could get one upon arrival.
Citizens from the East African Partner States – Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda – do not need to apply for an ETA.

Do I need any other documents to enter Kenya?
To enter Kenya, you typically need a valid Kenya ETA and a valid passport. Depending on the purpose of your travel, you may be required to show additional documentation by the immigration authorities. This could be a referral letter from a hospital or doctor if you're traveling for medical reasons, or an employment contract if you're going to work.
