Do I need to print my eVisa approval or can I also show the email on my phone?

Hi Johann,

While some travelers may have successfully shown a digital copy, the Namibian government states that it’s mandatory to show a printed eVisa approval letter.

Immigration officers will want to see it when you arrive in Namibia, and having a hard copy helps if your phone dies or there’s no Wi-Fi at the airport. It’s a small step that can prevent big headaches.

However, we also recommend downloading a digital copy to your device, just in case you lose your paperwork.

I’m traveling from South Africa (but I am from Argentina), can I use the eVisa on Arrival to cross the land border from there too?

Hi Isabella,

Yes. The Namibia eVisa on Arrival is valid entry by land, air, and sea, through any of the approved entry points:

  • Hosea Kutako International Airport
  • Oshikango Border Post
  • Walvis Bay International Airport
  • Trans-Kalahari Border Post
  • Oranjemund Border Post
  • Noordover Border Post
  • Katima Mulilo Border Post
  • Impalila Island Border Post
  • Ngoma Border Post
  • Mohembo Border Post

However, only the Dobe border with Botswana is not yet operational for the eVisa or Visa on Arrival.

More information and a handy overview with map can be found on the government website.

I’ve read somewhere I need to have travel insurance, do I need this to get the eVisa before traveling?

Hi Peter,

No, travel insurance isn’t mandatory to get pre-approval for your Namibia eVisa. However, depending on your situation, immigration officials may ask to see a few supporting documents when you arrive, such as:

  • Travel insurance covering your trip duration
  • Parental consent letter if a child is traveling alone or with only one parent
  • Bank statements for the last 3 months to show proof of financial means
  • Proof of onward or return travel

Keep in mind: even with an approved eVisa, entry into Namibia is ultimately up to the immigration officer at the border.

If they have any concerns about your travel plans, they may ask for extra documentation to confirm that you’re visiting legally and not planning to stay, work, or overstay your visa.

Do I really need to apply for a visa before flying to Namibia? Can’t I just get one at the airport?

Hi Anish,

Yes, Namibia offers a Visa on Arrival for eligible travelers and at certain border crossings and airports.

However, the government strongly recommends applying for pre-approval online before you travel. While you can get your visa stamped when you arrive, having that pre-approval speeds things up significantly and helps you avoid long queues or unexpected delays at the airport.

To keep things stress-free, we suggest applying at least 7 days before your trip, so you arrive with everything in order and can breeze through immigration.

I'm from the UK and didn't need a visa before, but your website says I do. Has this changed recently?

Hi Ash,

This is correct. While you could previously visit Namibia visa-free, from 1 April 2025, UK passport holders will need a visa to visit Namibia.

Luckily, the process is simple. You can either apply for an eVisa pre-approval online before you travel, or get a visa on arrival when you land in Namibia. We recommend pre-applying to avoid queues at the airport.
