Summary
  • Dominican Republic travelers must complete the ED Card before entering Sint Maarten, even if they’re arriving by cruise or just transiting.
  • Each traveler, including children, needs their own ED Card – but you can submit group applications easily via iVisa.
  • iVisa offers a smooth Spanish-language application and reliable customer support, making the process faster than using the official platform.

If you’re from the Dominican Republic and planning to visit Sint Maarten (the Dutch side of the island), you’ll need to complete the Electronic Disembarkation (ED) Card before your trip – even if you’re arriving on a cruise or just transiting at the airport.

Get all the info here.

What is the Sint Maarten ED Card?

The Electronic Disembarkation Card is a mandatory online entry form required for travelers arriving in Sint Maarten, the Dutch side of the island.

It’s not a visa, but it must be presented upon arrival.

💡 Tip from Femke Strietman, travel expert at iVisa:

"You can technically fill it out on paper at the airport, but doing it online in advance avoids long queues at the airport."

Do travelers from the Dominican Republic need it?

Yes. Every Dominican citizen entering the Dutch side of Sint Maarten needs an approved ED Card, even if:

  • You’re just transiting
  • You arrive by cruise
  • You’re staying on the French side

What you’ll need to apply:

  • A passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your stay
  • A return or onward ticket
  • Accommodation details (hotel, Airbnb, or host address)
  • Proof of sufficient funds for your stay
  • For minors traveling alone or with one parent: a parental consent letter

What if I’m staying on the French side?

The island is divided into two territories:

  • Sint Maarten (Dutch side) – ED Card is required
  • Saint Martin (French side) – ED Card is not required

However, if you arrive via Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM) or by cruise ship to the Dutch port, the ED Card is still mandatory, regardless of where you’re staying.

"I booked a hotel in Saint Martin, but landed on the Dutch side. I had to fill out the ED Card at the airport and wait in a long line. Wish I’d known earlier!" – Carla M., Santo Domingo

✅ ED Card Required ❌ ED Card Not Required
Landing at SXM Airport (Dutch side) Flying into SFG Airport (French side)
Cruise arrival at Dutch port Ferry arrival from Saint Martin
Transiting through Sint Maarten Overland entry from Saint Martin

How to apply from the Dominican Republic

The process is quick and simple:

  1. Go to the government site or the iVisa ED Card application page or mobile app
  2. Fill out the online form with your travel and personal details
  3. Upload a copy of your passport
  4. Receive your ED Card via email – often within minutes
