Summary
  • Antigua and Barbuda citizens must complete the ED Card before entering Sint Maarten, even for cruise stops or airport layovers.

  • Each traveler, including children, needs their own ED Card – apply easily for multiple travelers through iVisa.

  • iVisa simplifies getting the ED Card with a fast, mobile-friendly process and 24/7 customer service – great for Caribbean travelers flying or sailing into Sint Maarten.

If you're traveling from Antigua and Barbuda to Sint Maarten (Dutch side), whether by air or sea, you’ll need to complete the Electronic Disembarkation (ED) Card online before you arrive - even if you’re just transiting.

Here’s everything you need to know.

What is the Sint Maarten ED Card?

The ED Card is a required online entry form for everyone landing in Sint Maarten (Dutch side).

It’s not a visa, but it is mandatory for entry - even for short visits, cruise stops, or airport transfers.

💡 Tip from Femke Strietman, travel expert at iVisa:

“Don’t leave this to the last minute, as having your ED Card ready means you’ll skip airport delays when arriving from Antigua or connecting via Caribbean hubs.”

Do Antigua & Barbuda citizens need the ED Card?

Yes. All citizens of Antigua and Barbuda arriving on the Dutch side of the island must have an approved ED Card, including if:

  • You’re transiting through Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM)
  • You’re arriving on a cruise
  • You’re staying in Saint Martin (French side)
✅ ED Card required ❌ ED Card not required
Flight arrival at SXM (Dutch airport) Flying into SFG (French airport)
Cruise arrival on Dutch side Ferry from Saint Martin
Transiting through Sint Maarten Overland travel from French side

What if I’m staying on the French side (Saint Martin)?

Even if your accommodation is in Saint Martin (the French side of the island), arrival location matters.

If your flight lands at SXM (Dutch airport) or your cruise docks at the Dutch terminal, you must submit an ED Card.

“We had a ferry planned from Anguilla to the French side, but ended up flying from Antigua into Princess Juliana airport. Luckily, iVisa made the ED Card process fast - no drama!” – Kareem G., St. John's

Sint Maarten ED Card requirements

You’ll need to provide:

  • A valid Antigua and Barbuda passport
  • A return or onward travel ticket
  • Details of your stay (hotel, Airbnb, or accommodation info)
  • Proof of sufficient funds
  • For minors traveling alone or with one parent: a parental consent letter

How to apply from Antigua and Barbuda

It only takes a few minutes to apply:

  1. Visit the official government website or the iVisa ED Card page or download the mobile app
  2. Fill out your personal and travel details
  3. Upload a scan of your passport
  4. Receive your ED Card by email
