Heading to Belize from Mexico? Whether you’re cruising in from Cozumel or crossing the land border from Chetumal, there’s one thing every Mexican traveler needs before arrival: the Belize Travel Declaration.

This essential form helps Belizean authorities know who’s coming, where you’re staying, and what you’re bringing. It only takes a few minutes, but not having it could cost you hours at the border.

What is the Belize travel declaration?

Think of the Belize Travel Declaration as a quick digital customs and immigration form. It is not a visa, but it is just as important. All international travelers entering or leaving Belize via Philip Goldson International Airport, including Mexican citizens, need to fill it out.

It’s single-use, so you’ll need one for entry and a separate one for your departure.

Do Mexican travelers need it?

Yes. Even though you don’t need a visa for short trips, you still need the Belize Travel Declaration. This applies even if you arrive by bus, plane, or cruise.

When should you complete it? ⏰

You must complete the declaration before you arrive in Belize and again before you leave. Do it online and wait for the QR code via email.

Save it to your phone and carry a printed backup in case your phone dies.

What happens if you skip it?

Some travelers report delays, missed buses, and even tours because they didn’t have the form ready. Customs agents may pull you out of line to fill it out on the spot, and if the Wi-Fi is slow, that can be stressful.

"We usually enter Belize by land through Chetumal, so when we flew into Philip Goldson International Airport this time, we were unaware of the form. The officers were kind but firm. We had to step aside and fill it out on our phones while everyone else passed through," explained Mariana G., a travel blogger from Mexico City

What you’ll need to apply 📝

Good news: You don’t need to upload anything. Just have this info ready:

  • 📱 Mobile number with +52 country code
  • 🛫 City you’ll be in before arriving in Belize
  • 🏨 Address of your accommodation in Belize
  • 🇲🇽 Country of residence: Mexico
  • 💬 Your preference for updates: WhatsApp, SMS, or email

The Belize government form works, but it’s not the easiest. With us, you get:

Side-by-side comparison graphic highlighting the advantages of using iVisa for the Belize Travel Declaration versus the Belize government website, including faster processing, 24/7 customer support, easier passport upload, and multi-language assistance

"I filled it out the night before crossing into Belize and had my QR code in a few hours with iVisa's super rush option," revealed Andrés L., a backpacker from Oaxaca

How much does it cost? 💳

The government doesn’t charge a fee, but we do charge a small processing fee for convenience, speed, and peace of mind:

  • Standard: USD $69.99 (24-hour processing)

  • Rush: USD $79.99 (8-hour processing)

  • Super Rush: USD $89.99 (30-minute processing)

What to expect at Belize customs 🛬

Expect a quick but serious process. Immigration officers will ask:

  • Where you’re staying
  • How long you’re staying
  • What you’re bringing with you

You’ll need your passport and the QR code from your Belize Travel Declaration.

"There were people pulled aside to complete their forms, but I had my code ready. I got through in minutes," said Iván R., solo traveler from Cancún

What can you bring from Mexico to Belize? 🌮🍫

Skip these:

  • Fresh fruit or vegetables
  • Cheese, meat, or other perishables
  • Homemade snacks or unpackaged food

Usually okay:

  • Sealed snacks like chips, cookies, and candy
  • 1 liter of alcohol per traveler (more must be declared)

“We brought some mazapan and pre-packaged tamarind candy. Customs didn’t bat an eye,” revealed Paola from Guadalajara.
