Planning a holiday from the United Kingdom to Belize? Before you can relax under palm trees or explore Mayan ruins, there's one essential document to take care of: the Belize Travel Declaration.

In this guide, we’ll explain what it is, when you need to complete it, and how to get yours the easy way.

What is the Belize travel declaration?

The Belize Travel Declaration is a mandatory online form for anyone entering or exiting Belize via Philip Goldson International Airport in Belize City.

It’s not a visa and doesn’t replace one if you need it for long-term stays. Think of it more like a digital customs and immigration form. You fill it out online, get a QR code by email, and show that code when passing through the airport.

If you forget to complete it, customs officers can deny you entry or delay your journey while you scramble to submit it on your phone.

“I had no idea I needed this form. I arrived in Belize thinking I could just show my passport, but I got stopped at immigration and sent to a corner with no clear instructions. The Wi-Fi barely worked and I was panicking trying to fill out the form on my phone. It was the most stressful part of my trip,” said Holly W., solo traveller from Manchester.

Do UK travellers need the Belize Travel Declaration?

Yes. While British citizens don’t need a visa for stays under 30 days, the Belize Travel Declaration is required for all travellers arriving or leaving the country by air.

So if you're flying from Heathrow to Belize City, this form is a must.

Cruise ship passengers arriving by sea do not need the form.

When and how often do I complete it? ⏰

Complete the form before you arrive in Belize and again before your departure. It’s valid for one entry only, so you’ll need to do it twice — once for arrival and once for departure.

It takes about 10 minutes and requires no uploads. You’ll receive a QR code via email.

Print it or save it to your phone so you're not stuck if your battery dies.

“Customs moved quickly, but one woman ahead of us had to step aside to fill out the form. I was glad we did ours the night before flying,” said Reece M., a frequent flyer from London.

What can you bring into Belize? 🎁✈️

Here’s what you should know about customs rules:

Avoid bringing:

  • Fresh produce, meat, or dairy
  • Homemade or unlabelled food
  • Wrapped gifts (customs may ask to unwrap them)

Allowed if declared:

  • Electronics for personal use
  • Commercially packaged snacks
  • Duty-free alcohol up to 1 litre

“We flew in with toys and tech for family and declared everything. Customs asked what the electronics were for, but once we explained they were presents, it was fine,” said Ellie and Jack H., visiting family in San Ignacio.

What info do UK citizens need to apply? 🇬🇧📝

  • UK phone number and email address
  • Where you're staying in Belize (hotel, Airbnb, family home, etc.)
  • The last city you’ll be in before your flight
  • Preferred update method (WhatsApp, SMS, or email)
  • Country of residence: United Kingdom
