Saudi Arabia entry requirements or restrictions

It's important to note this when planning your Umrah pilgrimage, especially if you intend to travel beyond the major cities.

COVID-19 Regulations Contrary to what many might think, Saudi Arabia does not require a COVID-19 vaccination certificate or a negative PCR or antigen test to enter the Kingdom. However, there are still crucial health-related guidelines that travelers should be aware of:

Medical Insurance: All visitors intending to enter Saudi Arabia, excluding residents, must have medical insurance that covers the costs of COVID-19 treatment in outpatient clinics, emergencies, and hospitals.

Given that entry requirements and restrictions can change frequently, we at iVisa strive to provide the most up-to-date information to ensure you have a smooth journey. Always check the latest guidelines for the most accurate and current data.

Differences between the Saudi Arabia Umrah Visa and the Saudi Arabia Tourist Visa

Do you need the Tourist Visa or the Umrah visa? Here are some of the essential differences to consider:

  1. Purpose: The Umrah visa is designed for Muslims performing pilgrimage in Mecca and Medina, while the tourist eVisa is open to all for general tourism.

  2. ZamZam benefits: Only Umrah visa holders can take ZamZam water out of the country. Tourist eVisa holders don't have this privilege.

  3. Eligibility & requirements: The tourist eVisa is limited to applicants from 49 countries, whereas the Umrah visa is globally available, making it more in demand and sometimes harder to obtain.

  4. Number of entries: Enjoy multiple entries with the tourist eVisa, but note that the Umrah visa is a single-entry visa.

Whichever visa you choose, count on iVisa to make the process effortlessly smooth. Your Arabian journey is just a click away!

I’m planning to perform Umrah at the end of this month. Once I’m done, I’d like to explore a bit before I head home. Can I travel to other cities like Abha or Dammam with an Umrah visa, or am I restricted to specific areas?

Yes, you can travel to other cities like Abha or Dammam with an Umrah visa. In 2022, the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah confirmed that holders of Umrah visas are allowed to move freely across the kingdom during their stay. This means after completing your Umrah, you can explore other parts of Saudi Arabia without any restrictions

I’m from Vancouver, and I’m heading to Saudi Arabia for Umrah soon. I’m really keen to extend my trip after the spiritual part to soak in more of what Saudi has to offer. I think I read somewhere about possibly converting an Umrah visa into a general visit visa once I’m there. Is this really possible? If yes, how is it done?

Currently, there is no provision to convert an Umrah visa into a general visit visa once you are in Saudi Arabia. If you wish to extend your stay beyond the spiritual activities, you would need to apply for a different type of visa that suits your extended travel plans before you travel or consider re-entering the Kingdom with a new visa suitable for your needs.

I’m currently in Melbourne and my family and I are going to perform Umrah in Saudi Arabia in September/October. I don’t like to leave things until the last minute but this time I might have jumped the gun. I applied for our Umrah visas way too early and I just realized that the visa’s three-month validity might not cover our travel dates. Is it possible to adjust the dates on the visa or should I cancel and reapply closer to the travel time? (I’m really hoping I don’t have to cancel because we’ll lose a lot of money.)

Martin, iVisa | Aug 1, 2024

If you've applied for your Umrah visas too early and the three-month validity does not cover your intended travel dates, you cannot adjust the dates on an issued visa. Unfortunately, you would need to reapply for a new Umrah visa closer to your departure date to ensure the validity aligns with your travel schedule. It's important to plan the timing of your visa application according to your travel dates to avoid such issues.
